Where is my data stored?

Everything — rosters, games, seasons, your kid's stats — lives on your device only. Hardwoods has no accounts and makes no network requests. See the privacy policy.

What's the difference between the six modes?

My Kid tracks a single player from the stands and builds her season. Team Stats tracks every girl on your roster — one tap per stat, no opponent, no book. Training runs shooting drills and charts every shot. Full Scorebook runs the official book: both teams, rosters, fouls, periods, and box scores. Simple Scorebook is just the score — two teams, no roster. Team Seasons holds every game you save from Team Stats or the Full Scorebook: records, trends, and player season averages.

When would I use Team Stats instead of the Full Scorebook?

When you want your team's stats and nobody's asked you to keep the official book. The Full Scorebook tracks both teams and takes three taps per stat — team, player, stat. Team Stats drops the other team and leaves the roster on screen, so it's two taps: player, stat. Both save to Team Seasons, and both offer to save each girl's line to her My Kid profile if she has one on your phone.

How do I set up a team for Team Stats?

Tap + New Team, name it, and add players — number and name. Everything saves as you type; there's no save button to remember. The same roster is available in the Full Scorebook's Team Setup, and vice versa. To edit later, select the team and tap Roster.

A girl showed up who isn't on the roster.

Tap the + Add chip at the end of the player strip during the game. She's added to the saved team and selected, ready to tap.

What order are the players in?

By jersey number, lowest to highest — on the strip during a game and on the box score afterwards, so it lines up with the coach's roster sheet.

A player isn't here tonight. Do I delete her?

No — long-press her on the Team Stats strip and mark her out. She comes off the strip, doesn't count as a game played, and stays on the saved team. Tap the OUT chip at the end of the strip to see who's out or bring someone back.

I recorded one girl's stats under another's name.

Open the game in Team Seasons, long-press it, and choose Edit Stats. Tap the player whose line is wrong, then This was actually someone else and pick who it belongs to. You can also adjust any stat count there with the + and − buttons.

Can I send a coach the whole season?

Yes. Open the team in Team Seasons and tap Share Season. A coach with Hardwoods opens that file and gets every game — records, scoring trends, each box score, and the player season averages table. Unlike a screenshot, he can sort it and follow up on it. Send him an updated file whenever you like; games he already has are skipped.

The coach wants to see turnovers.

Turnovers are off by default — turn them on under Stats to Track for the team before the next game, and they'll appear as a TO/G column in the season averages. Team Stats tracks up to twelve stats, so you can add turnovers and blocks without giving anything up. Stats you never tracked can't be filled in later, so switch them on before the game, not after.

How do I get a team game onto another phone — or to the coach?

On the box score, Share as Image sends a picture anyone can read. Share Stats sends the game as data: another phone with Hardwoods opens it, adds it to Team Seasons, and offers each player's line to her My Kid profile if she has one there. Sending the same game twice won't create duplicates.

The scorebook didn't save stats to my kid's profile.

Hardwoods matches roster players to My Kid profiles by name. A roster that says "Evelyn Cooper" will match a profile named "Evelyn" as long as the jersey numbers agree, or if she's the only Evelyn on the roster. If it's still not matching, open her profile and tap Edit Name & Number to line them up.

How do I back up my kid's data?

Open her profile and tap Back Up Everything, then send the file to yourself — email it, save it to Files, AirDrop it to a laptop. It holds her games, her training sessions, and her settings. To restore, open that file: Hardwoods puts everything back, and skips anything already on the phone, so restoring an older backup after a few more games just fills the gaps.

Worth doing before you ever delete or reinstall the app. Hardwoods keeps everything on your device and nothing in the cloud, which is what keeps it private — but it also means deleting the app deletes the season. A backup file is the only way back.

Can I send games to another parent's phone?

Yes. From your kid's profile tap Share, pick the games, and send the file by AirDrop, text, or email. When the other phone opens it, Hardwoods adds the games to that kid's profile. Sending the same games twice won't create duplicates. If you tracked a game on paper, Add a Game by Hand lets you enter it yourself.

How do I track how much she plays?

During a My Kid game, tap On the Bench when she checks in and it flips to On the Floor with a running clock; tap again when she comes out. Her card then shows playing time as a share of the game — "46% · 18:42" — because a phone measures real minutes, not the game clock, and the share is the fair comparison. Forgetting to tap out at the buzzer is fine; ending the game closes it for you. Pausing the game stops the clock.

How does Training work?

Pick a player, then either a drill or Open Gym. In a drill the app already knows which spot she's shooting from, so recording a shot is one tap — MAKE or MISS. It moves to the next spot on its own when the reps are done. In Open Gym there's no drill: tap the court where she shot, then MAKE or MISS.

Do I need to know the drills?

No. Every drill explains itself on screen while you run it, under "How it works". Nine drills come built in, from Form Shooting and the Mikan drill up to three-point circuits.

When it says "left wing", whose left is that?

Your player's. Left and right are always from the shooter's point of view as she faces the basket — the same way you'd tell her where to stand. On the court diagram that puts her left on the right-hand side of the screen, because you're looking at her from behind the basket.

Can I change a drill's target percentage?

Yes, and each player gets their own. Tap the TARGET chip on any drill in the Training screen to adjust it. Past sessions keep the target they were judged against, so raising the bar never turns an earlier good session into a failure.

What do the colored circles on the shot chart mean?

Each circle is one shooting spot, showing the percentage she made from there. The more filled in it is, the better she shot; spots under about a third turn red. It's a quick way to see where the practice should go next.

How do I save a game to Team Seasons?

Tap ■ END GAME when the game is over, in either Team Stats or the Full Scorebook. You'll be asked for the final score, the box score is archived, and everything resets for your next game — rosters and rules stay put.

How do I share stats?

After a My Kid game, the share card appears automatically — tap Share as Image to text it, or Share Stats to send the numbers as a file another Hardwoods phone can import. You can also share any game or the season from the season view, export a season report PDF, share a Team Stats box score as an image, and share the Full Scorebook box score as an image or PDF.

How do seasons work in My Kid?

Games count toward your kid's current season. When a season wraps up, open their profile and tap ⟳ Start New Season — past seasons stay saved and you can flip back to them anytime in the season view.

I recorded something by mistake. How do I fix it?

Tap UNDO — every mode has it, and it tells you exactly what it's undoing. For older mistakes in the Full Scorebook, open the Scorebook, tap ✎ EDIT, then tap any player row to correct their stats directly.

Will my screen turn off during a game?

No — while you're tracking a game, Hardwoods keeps the screen awake. Normal auto-lock resumes when you leave the game screen.

What happens if the app closes mid-game?

Nothing is lost. In-progress games are saved with every tap; reopen the app and pick up where you left off.
